Dear Friends,

This year instead of walking in my home state of Oregon, I was caring for my nephew in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Going from the dry, wildfires and smokey northwest and coming to Florida’s heat and humidity, I was not ready for daily rain storms   accompanied by thunder and lightning. It made for severe limitations on when I could walk. It was Interesting to  observe my own frustration with not being able to walk when I wanted to.

My nephew Mat, is a highly joyful and insightful young man. He he’s also very disabled from a near drowning accident when he was two. He is imprisoned in his body which has severe limitations as to what it can do. Being with Mathew is a great honor and teaches me so much about patience, caring, acceptance, striving, and determination. All qualities I’d like to embrace.

I was able to complete my 25 mile walk at 9:30 Sunday evening.  I walked 8.6 on Friday, 6.7 on Saturday (thunder and lightning limited) and 10 miles on Sunday.

While walking the neighborhood here, I thought of limitations we each have;  whether incarcerated, or limited in various ways in our own being.  By understanding our limitations,  we can find ways to address them just as Mathew and the APO recipients are doing. We can help ourselves, we can help others.

My sincere thanks to all my supporters.  I never walked alone, you were with me!

In peace and love,

Kathy
