Warm Greetings dear Friends and family,
Michaelmas time is coming once again bringing with it the annual Anthroposophical Prison Outreach Walkathon. This will be the third year that I will be walking the lakes and roads of our home in Seven Lakes, North Carolina, the weekend of September 23-25, on behalf of the Walkathon - and for many of you, the third time that I have invited you to support this worthy cause. Thank you so much for your support and good will for APO. You are most welcome to share this with friends who might be moved to contribute to the Walkathon.
There is so much that I would like to share with each of you about Anthroposophical Prison Outreach. I have asked a fellow walker, Kathy Serafin, who has been a part of the APO since it’s beginning 21 years ago, and is currently the APO program director, if I could include (below) what she wrote for her own page, as she moves, inspires and informs so deeply from her many years of experience. Thank you, Kathy!
Anthroposophical Prison Outreach (APO) helps bring inspiration, guidance and support to incarcerated individuals who seek to build a spiritually productive life while facing time in prison. Prisoners embrace anthroposophy as a path of self-knowledge and loving practice supporting their awareness and reflection as part of one’s spiritual humanness. The positive impact their meditative work, self-development studies and exercises have brought to their lives is witnessed daily as prisoners begin to experience inner peace, personal transformation and hope.
Through APO’s twenty three years of service we have helped support incarcerated individuals in over 800 prisons across the country. Our lending library of over 300 book titles, study materials, mentorship program, 26 lesson correspondence courses, Enter Light-Voices from Prison art and poetry events, and our newsletter Illuminating Anthroposophy offer individuals an opportunity to build confidence and life changing attitudes. In this process they join a community with others who seek meaning and direction in their lives and who radiate a positive change into the greater community and world. As positive attitudes and focus develop it is often recognized through improved relations with others.
If you have a chance, please visit our website to read prisoners letters of gratitude and appreciation for what they have experienced. https://www.anthroposophyforprisoners.org/
I am always humbled and in wonder at the illumination that shines forth from these striving individuals who transform themselves in deep meaningful ways in some of the darkest places in our country. This is deep social transformation and only by our striving in community together with others can we work towards freedom and the good for all. Please help support APO through this meaningful deed and in so doing help the many individuals on their journey to turn their lives around. Warmly, Kathy
APO provides men and women who are in prison with meditation and self-development study material and newsletters, bringing change into their lives. Your donation makes a big difference in the world. Thank you!!!
Where will this walk-a-thon be held? It's everywhere! This is a nationwide event with no set course. Walkers and cyclists can participate wherever they want, with whomever they want.
Thanks for helping Anthroposophical Prison Outreach to continue its important work in serving prisoners around the country.
This year we intend to raise $40,000 in support of the work of the APO and the hundreds of prisoners around the country whose lives we touch, with inspiration and support on their inner spiritual journey.
Your support makes a difference!
APO brings the opportunity for self-rehabilitation and hope to incarcerated individuals. We encourage inmates to take responsibility for their lives through teaching exercises, meditative techniques, books of a spiritual nature, mentorship, and correspondence courses.
Thank you for your help!
Anthroposophical Prison Outreach is a program of the Anthroposophical Society in America, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Gifts are tax deductible to the maximum allowed by law.
