Dear Friends,
This year I am participating in a walkathon for Anthroposophical Prison Outreach, or APO. It is a program I have been following for years through their newsletter and now I see a way to contribute that combines my love of hiking, running and walking!
So, what is APO? It is based on the work of Rudolf Steiner and it provides free library books, correspondence courses, and other materials to individuals in over 800 prisons across the U.S. I have read so many testimonials from people participating in the work and they are so moving and inspiring. It truly is life changing for them.
A testimonial from Gillium in Livingston, TX after reading one of the books provided: "I learned in Esoteric Christianity about the concept of using the present time to better ourselves for this life, and to prepare for the life to come, as well. It definitely made me more mindful of what may lie ahead and how important my present walk is in relation to it. It added importance and direction for me right now. I am considering the possible effect of how I am spending each moment, and putting more effort into today. When the student is ready, the teacher appears. As I study and remain steady, things become more and more clear. I am developing to the highest possible degree those qualities that are called good. Focusing on the good and working to increase it."
I plan three different events:
1) to hike the Appalachian Trail from Jug End to Kellogg (3.7 miles ~ 2 and a bit hours) (Saturday)
2) to walk the Jug End Loop with Lily ~ 2 hours (Friday)
3) to run 2 miles on the track at Simon's Rock (Sunday)
for a total of ~ 7 miles
Join me on any of the events! Love to you all!
Anthroposophical Prison Outreach inspires inner change in men and women who are in prison. Our lending library, meditation instruction, correspondence course and twice yearly newsletters support students in their self-development. And, as you know, when one person changes, it radiates to those around them. Your donation makes a big difference in the world. Click the button above to donate or join in as a walker. Another option is to sponsor a specific walker, just scroll down to see our participants! Thank you for your support!
