Description
Each card in the set includes Rudolf Steiner's specific notes to Imma von Eckardstein, who made these zodiacal images for the original Calendar of the Soul, 1912/13. The images in this set are based on photographs of the glass etchings later made by Margot Rössler. These glass etchings were gifted to the Anthroposophical Society in America by Lotte Emde in the early 2000s, and are on permanent display in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
Rudolf Steiner's notes refer to the esoteric meaning of the images, and offer guidance for contemplation. Imma von Eckardstein created these images by meditating on the rising Sun, mindful that each day there is a constellation of stars standing behind the Sun, sending forces over the Sun toward the human being. Further, because the constellations are as the outer vestige of spiritual beings revealing themselves from the stars, Rudolf Steiner encouraged her to immerse herself in the after image of the rising Sun, to awaken a sense of these starry forces.
The notes reveal an evolutionary sequence that begins with Pisces and precesses through the zodiac to Aquarius, Capricorn, Sagittarius and so on, rather than following the outer course of the year as it is experienced moving forward from Spring through Summer to Autumn and Winter.
Set includes 13 cards, 4x6 each, beautifully formatted on thick matte paper for easy, daily use. Includes pamphlet describing the notes, indications from Rudolf Steiner, and a history told by Margot Rössler.
In this Calendar (of the Soul) will be found signs that differ from those handed down by tradition, because the latter are no longer suitable for modern consciousness. These pictures of the Zodiacal constellations are representations of actual experiences connected with the waking and sleeping of particular spiritual Beings. We have in these pictures a renewal of certain knowledge that needs to be renewed at the present time...~Rudolf Steiner "Calendar of the Soul" 7 May 1912
